The Quasi-Decennial
High School Group Reunion

We all made friends in other high schools as a result of First Baptist Church of Modesto's high school ministry. We would never have a chance to catch up with many of them if we just went to our respective high school reunions. We are therefore calling for everyone who was a member of the FBC high school ministry, in the years of 89-90, to assemble in the Summer of 1999 for the Quasi-Decennial High School Group Reunion!

Although we all met at First Baptist Church of Modesto, this reunion is not a FBC function. Whether you currently attend FBC, or never plan to, it doesn’t matter. We are only interested in renewing friendships, catching up on old times, and having fun.

Date and Location:

Mark your calendars for July 24th 1999. (This was the one day that 50+ people surveyed on the web could all attend.) It will be at the Modesto Double Tree Hotel (209-526-6000) in the Pistache/Ginkgo room. The party will start at 7:00 pm and end around 1:00 am. Please come in semi-formal attire.

Don't eat before you come:

The buffet will feature beef tenderloin burgundy, herb chicken, marinated mushroom and artichoke salad, chilled pasta salad, cantonese chicken salad, season's greens with assorted dressings, fresh seasonal vegetables, rice and potato, breads and rolls, and assorted Desserts.

Registration Cost:

We have worked hard to keep costs consistent with the expectations of the 50+ individuals surveyed over the web.

NEW: Due to a renegotiation of the contract with Double Tree, we've reduced our liability, and are able to keep the reunion tickets at $40.00.

We will deposit registration checks into our reunion account on a weekly basis. There will be no registration sales at the door. Attendance is limited, and will be on a first come basis, so please be sure to register early. (Be assured that we are not making money off this event, and it is nearly certain that we will lose money. For those that think $40 is high, search for any other 10 year reunion ticket price on the web. You will find that most reunions charge $55 to $80 a person).

Where can I get those flyers?

We've been sending out flyers to everyone we can get an address for. The flyer is also available here, in PDF (Portable Document Format). To view PDF documents, you need to install the free Acrobat Reader program (version 3.0 or higher).

Want to help out?

Please contact us if you have access to multimedia equipment (slide machine, video projector, karaoke DVD's), and be sure to let us know if you know of a good DJ near the Modesto area. All help is greatly appreciated and will be recognized.

Things NOT to worry about:

  1. "No one I know will be there." -- Not only will you discover many people you forgot you knew, but we encourage you to submit names of your friends we may have forgotten. Everyone will have a name tag, so you won’t have to pretend that you remember someone’s name.
  2. "I didn’t like myself (or others) in high school. Why should I go and resurrect old discomforting feelings?" -- You’ll find that as an adult, the adolescent pecking order is gone. Your curiosity and openness towards meeting people you once knew will be shared by most all who attend.
  3. "I don’t have anything in common with anyone from high school anymore." -- You’ll be amazed how much more you have in common with folks now that ten or so years have gone by. (If not, just nod your head for awhile, then find another table.)
  4. "My car sucks / I weigh too much / I’m unemployed / etc..." This event is not about trying to impress people. We won’t have a "six figure" table. Be yourself, and don’t rent a car for the evening. A little initial apprehension about going is normal, but you’ll get over it quick.

We need information:

Please check our master list (updated semi-weekly). We know we’ve missed some people (especially from Modesto High and the schools outside of Modesto). That’s where YOU come in. Please send us missing contact information for people on our list, and for anyone you’d like to see invited who was in the high school group in the years 1989 - 1990, or anyone who knows most of the folks from that period.
Your spouse or date is invited, however this event is for adults only (please make arrangements for your children). Make sure to tell us if your address or contact information changes before the event. If you think we’ve missed something, let us know. If you've got a fantastic idea (or a couple mediocre ones) for the reunion, tell us!
Please be sure to check the reunion web site periodically (www.youdzone.com/reunion/), as we will continue to finalize details and add to the master list.

If you can't come...

If you don't show up, we'll talk about you (just kidding). But I'm serious when I say that you'll be sorry if you miss this event!
If you are unable to attend, please send in a questionnaire anyway. We're very interested in hearing from you, especially if you can't make it. Please enclose any message you'd like to send to the reunion. We'll post it along with your family picture and business card if you send them.
